Brick by Brick: How I Actually Build Business Systems

If you’ve spent any time in the online business space, you’ve been told you need a framework. A signature process. A trademarked-sounding thing with a catchy acronym.

Most of the time, that advice is more about marketing than substance. A framework people can repeat back to you is a framework that sells. Fair enough. But I wasn’t interested in building something just to sound legitimate—I wanted a process that actually reflects how I work, because that’s the part clients are really buying.

Here’s My Framework: Brick by Brick.

It came out of a simple observation about how my brain operates. I think in Lego builds. Give me a pile of pieces—tools, workflows, half-finished systems, knowledge living in someone’s head—and I don’t see mess. I see a build waiting to happen. One piece snaps into the next, and eventually you’ve got something sturdy enough to stand on.

That’s the whole philosophy behind Beachcomber Business Solutions. And the way it actually runs, stage by stage, is the BUILD method.

BUILD - Baseline

Baseline

Before anything gets built, I look at what’s actually there. Not what you think is there—what’s really happening day to day. Every business has a bottleneck someone’s gotten used to working around instead of fixing. Baseline is where that gets named.

BUILD - Unlock

Unlock

Once I know what exists, I turn it into a real plan. Unlocking isn’t about installing whatever’s trending—it’s about revealing the system that was hiding in the audit all along. The one that actually fits the business, the team, and the way the founder works best. A plan that ignores reality doesn’t hold up past week two.

BUILD - Implement

Implement

This is the hands-on stage—CRM setup, automations, SOPs, launch sequences, and possibly more. It’s the least glamorous part of the process and also the part that actually moves the needle. No system exists until it’s built.

BUILD - Lock-in

Lock-in

A system that only works when you’re in the room isn’t a system—it’s a dependency. Lock-in is where things get documented, tested, and delegated so the business can run without you (or me) standing over it. This is the stage most people skip, and it’s usually why systems fall apart within a few months of the engagement ending.

BUILD - Drive

Drive

Systems aren’t static. Once things are running, the work shifts to optimization—refining what’s working, catching what’s not, and supporting the next phase of growth. This is also where a lot of my fractional and ongoing work lives: content, communications, and strategic check-ins that keep momentum going instead of letting things quietly stall out.

Why This is More Than an Acronym

The point of BUILD isn’t the acronym. It’s that every business I work with gets the same rigor, in the same order, without me reinventing my approach for every client. That consistency is what makes the strategic partnership possible—not just cleaning up a mess, but building something that keeps working long after I’ve moved on to the next build.

If your business feels like a pile of loose bricks right now, you’re not failing. It’s just what happens before someone maps out how the pieces are supposed to fit together.

That’s the work we do. Brick by brick. Contact us to learn how we can support your business.
